Abrasive Discs Remove Welding Marks in One Step

Saint-Gobain Abrasives will feature its Norton Rapid Prep XHD coarse and medium discs for stock removal and blending challenges. The extra heavy-duty non-woven discs can remove lines, splatter and discoloration from welding and blend surfaces in a single step.

The coarse discs are ideal for aggressive weld removal and surface blending on steels, while the medium discs work well on softer metals and alloys. Users can save labor and consumable costs by reducing application steps compared with coated flap discs. The discs offer a combination of a conformable fiber matrix and ceramic grain, resulting in improved cut control and surface blending over traditional coated flap and fiber discs. The blended fiber web dissipates workpiece debris for increase product life and shape integrity. Its Clean Bond resin system is designed to prevent smearing and produce a controlled wear rate.

According to the company, the nonwoven discs can produce a 26 percent higher cut rate, with less shedding and two times the life when compared to other products.

The discs are available in 12 sizes and three nonwoven types. Quick-change discs are available from 2" to 4" TR attachment. Hook-and-loop discs are available in both 0.875" hole and no hole from 4 ½" to 7" diameter. Speed-change discs are available from 4 ½" × 5/8"-11 fastener to 7" × 0.875" fastener.
